Walmart Pilots Mobile Delivery, Circumvents Risk with Uber, Lyft Partnerships

Walmart is partnering with Uber and Lyft to provide grocery drop-offs for customers within test markets. “Partnering with Lyft and Uber offers Walmart a low-risk and easy way to implement delivery services without investing in more employees and vehicles,” – David Naumann, VP Marketing at Boston Retail Partners. Customers will be able to order and pay for their groceries and will be charge an extra $7-$10 delivery fee. They will be notified which ride-sharing service their delivery is coming from.

McDonald’s Offers Buyouts as Cost Cutting Continues

McDonald’s Corp. continues to restructure its operations to trim $500 million in spending. The chain is offering buyouts to directors and vice-president level staff at its headquarters. Workers will be laid off at various points over the coming months. More than 400 could be eligible for buyout packages with severance pay based on salary and length of service. The company also plans to move headquarters from Oak Brook to Chicago.
